seems to usually be used for positive things. you would not say "he cheated. after all, he is a lawyer.."

This might be a good example of how to use さすが in a more casual way.

Last time I went to karaoke I went with a bunch of bandmen, and after a vocalist of a certain band blew us all away, everyone said at the same time「さすがにプロだね!!」
