I believe Ex. 6406 has the wrong "mono" kanji in it. Sorry I can't type Japanese on this computer, but I'm sure you know what I mean : )
[ou to suru] perhaps you mean [youni-suru] maybe [ou-tosuru] would be "if you try.." which we have also as [toshitara]

about ex #4191: i tought that the form [-ou to suru] meant "to be in a process of" or "try to do".
温度は一定であるとする。is more natural.
仮定する (katei suru) I think also means "to assume"
